Bonnie Lass is the original prototype for designer Iain Oughtred’s Caledonia Yawl. She was built in 1988 by Ernie Tarr of Gloucester, MA. Her origin was nearly lost to history, until her story was rediscovered in 2023 by Drew Britten, her 4th and current owner. You can read her story in the April 2024 issue of Small Boats Monthly.
Bonnie Lass is located in Lake Stevens, WA, where she sails out of Everett, or on local lakes with Drew and his family of 4. Drew discovered sailing only recently, but he has been canoeing and kayaking since he was old enough to hold a paddle.
In addition to Bonnie Lass, Drew has a few more boat projects in the pipeline. He is currently building a Chesapeake 18 kayak, restoring a badly damaged Annapolis Wherry Tandem, and hopes to build a Devlin Mug Wump 22 in his retirement.
