Ellie is a John Welsford designed Navigator yawl built by Joel Bergen in Mukilteo, Washington. With no formal boatbuilding or woodworking training, Joel began solo construction of Ellie in October of 2009 and finished 20 months later.
Ellie sports a sliding gunter rigged main, roller furled jib and sprit-boomed mizzen, all rigged for easy access from the cockpit.
She is an ideal camp-cruiser and daysailer. She sleeps two comfortably under her boom tent. Her split rig sails fast and upright while providing numerous options for reefing, heaving-to and even self-steering, and her flat-bottomed planing hull with retractable centerboard and kick-up rudder is beachable.
Joel frequently attends most Pocket Yachter events and hosts a blog at navigatorjoel.blogspot.com.
