Dan Pence - Ginger

Ginger is an electric boat by Dan Pence and Pat Spurlock of Portland Oregon. Launched in 1998 and still in the Pence family, Gingers hull is strip planked western red cedar over plywood bulkheads. Power is stored in a 12 KWH li-Ion battery pack, this electricity is fed to an antique forklift motor to give a 50 mile range. This system has been upgraded a few times but always reliable. The mast carries a small square sail for downwind assistance, or a staysail for reaching.

Ginger sleeps two and hosts 5 for day trips. Accommodations include a wood burning stove, antique helm station, sink, toilet and lights. In 23 years of cruising Ginger has cruised the San Juan and Gulf Islands, Puget Sound, Columbia and Willamette Rivers, Snake River, Cascade Lakes and Oregon coastal bays. She has been exhibited in wooden boat festivals in Victoria, Port Townsend, Seattle, Portland, Cathlamet and Toledo Oregon.

Specs, 23’ LOA, 6’ beam, 2’ draft, 3200 lbs displacement with 550 lbs ballast.
